Expenses for Developing an Online Course
The students underwrite the cost to produce and distribute the online course. Each course is archived on a CD or DVD. The students purchase the disks and the income generated is applied to the cost to develop, maintain and distribute the course online.
Royalties through the Publishing Incentive Program
For classes that qualify instructors who publish through CiSMS are eligible to receive royalties from their online course. CiSMS offers royalties to the instructor when the course development and operational services have been paid. A written agreement for each class is completed in advance that details the expenses and royalties. In general, the royalty is based on the production expense and student enrollment.
Factors that may reduce royalties include license restrictions set by the source content, insufficient student enrollment, courses terminated by the college and additional class updates and classes that do not complete their contract on time.
Web Publishing Application Process (Overview)
- Complete the online Web Publishing Application
This form is designed to help CiSMS attain contact information, structure the course to be published, and define the direction in which the production of the course will be. Click here to access the form.
- Accepted Applications
CiSMS will meet with each instructor to complete the written agreement, which will specify the date for launching the course to be offered, web site construction, submission of course content, updates, proofing date and elements successful to course development. Please note that the college body with the authority to approve course offerings must approve the course. Obtaining formal approval from the college is the sole responsibility of the instructor. The written agreement must be completed prior to developing or distributing the class on line.

The instructor will provide the course content, the syllabus and additional course related information. This may include digital images, source videos, websites, third-party software media and more.
